PCC from Hackers

Fred Moore - idealist
at WEC farewell party, Stewart Brand to give away $20k
after hours of discussion and debate, Fred announces that this is a downer and proves that you don't need money to get done what you want to get done -- just other people. money divides and is generally evil. but refused putting it to a vote also, as voting "in his view was a way of dividing people against each other." "We feel the union of people here is more important than money -- a greater resource."

FM had idea to teach hardware class at PCC, though didn't know much cabout hardware. collab learning. B Albrecht thought it was bad idea. FM really involved in teaching classes at the center (13 p/week in computer games) thought a lot about how computers could keep alternative people together in big databases.

PCC is so deeply about education
